One Thousand Cranes and the Wishing Tree

Debuting May 14-16, 2026 at The Midwest Trust center

at Johnson County COmmunity College

Based on the ancient belief that if you can fold one thousand origami birds your wish will come true.

Imagine a world….just imagine. “I am Root, the beginning of every story, but you, you are the middle and togetehr we can write the end” so says The Keeper of the Tree of Wishes. Journey along the ‘root’ system with StoneLion Puppet Theatre as their intricate puppets bring to life real wishes gathered in our community and across the world.

A choose your own puppet adventure where each audience will pick which cranes to let fly from the tree of wishes. No single performance will be the same. Funny, touching, poignant and completely unique.

• What would happen if unicorns were real?

• What good is the smallest of us?  

• Waht if the world was a t peace?

• What if your shoes could talk?

At each performance the audience will be shown how to make their hands into cranes to fly as the wishes are brought to life as interactive fun, and to reinforce the idea that our actions can actually make a difference, especially as part of a community. Audience members are encouraged to leave their wish for the world to be added to the show.

• Curriculum: Environmental education through art from biodiversity, pfas, non-source point pollution, weather patterns and soil conservation with a new twist. Social Studies, Art, Drama, Music
